Overview
First Aid at Work is a blended learning programme aligned to the Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF). It combines pre-course digital learning with two days of face-to-face practical training and assessment. It is designed for people who are required to act as a first aider in higher-risk workplace environments and provides the knowledge and practical skills to manage a wide range of first aid situations safely and effectively.
Audience
This course is suitable for employees designated as workplace first aiders in higher-risk environments, or where a first aid needs assessment identifies First Aid at Work as appropriate. It is also suitable for individuals who require a more comprehensive first aid qualification to meet regulatory or organisational requirements.
Learning objectives
By the end of this course the aim is that delegates will be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider, including legal and reporting requirements.
- Assess an incident safely and manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally or not breathing.
- Manage a casualty with major illness, including heart attack, stroke, asthma, anaphylaxis, and diabetes-related emergencies.
- Recognise and manage choking, seizures, shock, and external bleeding, including life threatening bleeding.
- Identify and manage a range of injuries, including fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, head and spinal injuries, chest injuries, burns, and eye injuries.
- Conduct a secondary survey and provide ongoing casualty care until emergency services arrive.
Assessment
Practical assessment of first aid skills.
Learners are assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning across the full range of required first aid skills during the face-to-face component.
Completion of pre-course digital learning is required prior to attendance.
Completion requirements
Successful learners complete the digital component, meet the required practical assessment criteria during the face-to-face course, and receive a qualification certificate, which is typically valid for 3 years.
