Overview
Resuscitation Council UK’s e-ALS course blends one day of e-learning with one day of face-to-face practical learning. It covers adult CPR, recognition and management of the deteriorating patient, and effective team-working during emergency situations.
The course is designed to build the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to take the lead in an emergency, using a structured, evidence-based approach aligned to current RCUK guidance.
Audience
All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification. Medical students in their final year of training can be accepted as Candidates if this is an established local arrangement.
Learning objectives
- Recognise and manage the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach.
- Manage a cardiac arrest by working effectively with a multidisciplinary team in an emergency situation.
- Develop as an effective and confident team member and team leader by using non-technical skills in resuscitation scenarios.
Assessment
- Completion of the RCUK e-learning before the face-to-face course.
- Successful completion of the pre-course MCQ.
- Continuous practical assessment in airway management, initial assessment and resuscitation.
- Cardiac Arrest Simulation Test (CASTest).
- Successful candidates receive an ALS provider certificate valid for 4 years.
